Her achievements when she was a teenager in America (which is known as Maureen O'Hara today) would certainly put her in the category of child prodigies. The traits she displayed were normal to a person born in Ireland. by talented parents as well as a loving and supportive family. Maureen entered into this nurturing house on August 17th, 20 in Ranelagh. Marguerita FitzSimons was a gifted contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based company and was the owner of a portion in "The Shamrock Rovers" famous Irish soccer squad. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen excelled at sports and was a lover of rough play. She combined this interest with an equally natural gift for performing. The fact that she was awarded nearly all Feis awards for her native country's drama and theatre performances proved this. By age 14 she was admitted to the highly acclaimed Abbey Theater and pursued her goal of performing in classical theatre along with operatic music.
