Shay Mitchell is an Canadian actress, modeland businesswoman. Her most well-known role was in the role of Emily Fields from the Freeform TV series Pretty Little Liars. In Toronto she studied acting lessons following her great success with modeling and dancing. Mitchell gained commercial roles as well as guest roles in TV series. Her breakthrough came, however, when she played Emily Fields' role in Pretty Little Liars. Her acting skills were praised by both critics and fans. The actress went on to be a star on the screen, with films like The Dreamland Mother's Dayand The Possession of Hannah Grace. Her role in the series of psychological thrillers "You" led to more recognition. Aside from actingShay has also dabbled in writing. She was co-author of Bliss an adult novel, alongside Michaela Blayne. Shay Mitchell was born on April 10, 1987, and was raised in Ontario, Canada to parents Mark Mitchell and Precious Garcia. Shay Mitchell is Filipina heritage, and her father is of Scottish/Irish origins. Mitchell's cousin is Lea Salonga who is a well-known musical theater singer and actress. Mitchell was a student at Rockridge Secondary school before she transferred onto West Vancouver Secondary. In her teens, she had modeled for a variety of companies across the world. She visited Barcelona, Bangkok, Hong Kong before returning home to Toronto in which she started studying acting.
